Another pot shop approved

With little discussion or hoopla, the District of Summerland has approved a third cannabis retail store for the community.

Council approved Monday a shop proposed by PH Summerland Cannabis Inc. at 102-10105 Main Street. The provincial government will still need to issue final approval.

“The controversy is over?” quipped Coun. Richard Barkwill, after hearing the municipality received no correspondence on the proposal.

He was referring to pushback the district received over a shop it approved downtown Summerland in May.

A Summerland staff report stated the store would have "no negative impact on the community.”

"The proposal is further than 50 walkable metres of any community/youth centres, libraries, schools, parks or playgrounds. The closest amenity is Memorial Park which is sited approximately 60 walkable metres from the frontage of the site to the closest parcel boundary of the park. The storefront is not visible from the park and the rear of the building should not be used for customer entrance or advertisement," continues the staff report.

The shop is proposing operational hours of 10 a.m to 7 p.m. six days a week excluding Sundays.

The two previously approved cannabis stores in Summerland are still awaiting the provincial green-light to open.
