Power back in Rose Valley

UPDATE: 12:20 p.m.

BC Hydro's outage map shows power has been restored in the Rose Valley area of West Kelowna.

UPDATE: 6:20 a.m.

Power remains out after 16 hours in the Rose Valley area of West Kelowna.

BC Hydro's website gives an estimated time of power's return as 11 a.m. today.

Residents of the area reported a large explosion before the lights went out.

UPDATE: 7:40 p.m.

Nealy 100 customers in the Rose Valley area of West Kelowna remain without power.

BC Hydro has yet to indicate when the power, which went off shortly before 2:30, is expected to be restored.

They have said the cause of the outage is due to a cable fault.

The power went out just after a large explosion was reported by residents in the area.

UPDATE: 4:10 p.m.

BC Hydro's website shows crews have been assigned to a power outage affecting 96 customers in West Kelowna.

A loud explosion was heard before the power went out, although the utility has not issued any official comment on its cause.

There is currently no expected time that power may be restored.

ORIGINAL: 3 p.m.

A large explosion was reported by residents of the Rose Valley area in West Kelowna, just before the power went out Monday afternoon.

The BC Hydro website confirms that power was reported out in the area west of Parkinson Road, and east of West Kelowna Road just after 2:20 p.m.

The outage is currently under investigation, and crews have been assigned to the area.
