Clancy's top notch pub fare

For the rest of the summer, Castanet Penticton is featuring a new South Okanagan restaurant weekly, every Sunday. The feature will complement our existing weekly wine reviews found here.

The Secret is Out: You’ll Find Great Pub Grub at Clancy’s Downtown Penticton

Unlike the search in Tom Clancy’s novel The Hunt for Red October, you won’t have to look long for delicious food at Clancy’s Pub & Grill since new ownership took over about six months ago.

On an initial visit, you’ll need a minute to locate the downtown Penticton entrance, 333 Martin Street, given it’s tucked to the side of Clancy’s Liquor Store through a covered driveway shared with Charles Manor. Once discovered, whether you’re new, an overdue returnee or regular, you’ll be glad.

General Manager Ryan Graham, raised in Penticton and part of Princess Margaret Secondary’s first graduating class (2004), said it was a labour of love to raise the quality and value to the best it’s ever been. The first step was to close the kitchen to completely restore it and to bring in a new chef and culinary team.

“Our goal was to bring the oldest pub in town back to life with a homemade, fresh full menu and craft beer on our draft selection,” he said. You’ll find locals like Cannery Brewing and newcomer Neighbourhood Brewing plus BC favourites like Yellow Dog Brewing of Port Moody. “We’re a blue-collar pub where everyone (19 years and over) is welcome.”

The ownership didn’t tinker with great staff like Bonnie Birch who recently celebrated 25 years of serving. Graham noted, “So friendly and outgoing, Bonnie knows just about everybody and is great with customers.”

There are daily lunch burger, soup/sandwich and steak sandwich features. Taco Tuesday ($2.75 per taco), Wing Wednesdays, and Friday Steak & Prawns ($14.95) are other popular daily specials. There’s Saturday and Sunday brunch with “the tastiest and most economic eggs benny in town”.

Clancy’s offers dart boards, pool tables, Keno and pull tabs. Plus, it’s the only pub in Penticton with live action horse racing.

Hours are Monday to Thursday, 11 am to 11 pm; Friday/Saturday, 11 am to midnight; and Sunday, 11 am to 10 pm. Give Clancy’s a like on facebook.com/Clancyspubandgrill/ to keep current on specials and view the tasty pub menu.
