Police in West Kelowna issued a 90-day driving prohibition to one rider and have opened a criminal impaired driving investigation against another following a crash Saturday night.
The incident involved a rider who was travelling with a group of motorcycles before crashing near the Glenrosa interchange on Highway 97, shortly after 9:30 p.m.
RCMP Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says police received complaints of motorcycles driving erratically. They were eventually led to the scene of the crash.
“The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries as a result of being ejected from his motorbike and was found by emergency crews in a decreased level of consciousness,” says O’Donaghey.
“Our officers performed emergency first aid on the injured rider as they awaited the arrival of emergency medical crews.”
A criminal impaired driving investigation was launched after officers detected a strong odour of alcohol coming from the victim.
Officers also drew a breath sample from a second biker who had stopped to offer assistance, which resulted in a fail. The man, in his 50s, was handed a 90-day prohibition.
The injured rider, a Kelowna man in his 20s, was taken to KGH with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
