Riders conquer mountain

Hardy cyclists conquered the mountain, Sunday, during the fifth annual L’Alpe de Grand Blanc.

The challenging valley to village saw riders climb 60 kilometres from Kelowna to Big White. A total of 168 riders took part.

Olympic silver and gold medalist Kelsey Serwa rode the course with her grandfather, Cliff Serwa, for the third year in a row. Cliff was the original founder of Big White Ski Resort and is still going strong.

Kelowna local Jordan Cheyne, 27, won the men's race with a time of one hour, 48 minutes and 15 seconds.

Marg Fedyna, 53, was the first female to cross the finish line, with a time of two hours, 9 minutes and 51 seconds.

In the spirit of Tour de France tradition, they both received polka dot jerseys, along with a cash prize.

A post-ride barbecue and outdoor awards ceremony welcomed the riders to the village.
