Death in police custody

A person in Prince George died while in police custody in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The person was arrested Friday night at 9:30 p.m. for causing a disturbance. At 4:25 a.m. Saturday, police noticed the man was in distress, and paramedics took the person to the hospital.

A little over two hours later, the person was pronounced dead. It's unclear what led to the person's death, and no identifying details have been released about the person who died. 

Sunday, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. announced it will be investigating the death. The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious injury or death.
