Arrests in violent B&E

Two men have been charged in connection with a violent and targeted break and enter in Kelowna, Monday.

RCMP received a report of a break and enter just committed about 1:15 a.m. at a home on the 1700 block of Richter Street.

The home was occupied when the armed suspects gained entry and discharged bear spray inside the home.

A man and two women were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The suspects allegedly fled from the residence with personal property belonging to each of the victims, along with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects were arrested with the assistance of a police dog.

“As a result of the subsequent investigation ... police strongly believe that the violent break-in and robbery was targeted and not random in nature,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Paul Davis Houle, 32, of Kelowna, was held in police custody and has been charged with break and enter, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Tyler Brice Rathbone, 34, of Lake Country, who was later released pending further investigation, was taken back into police custody Thursday after being formally charged with break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and pointing a firearm.
