'Significant damage' in fire

UPDATE 9:03 p.m.

Peachland Fire Rescue Services Chief Dennis Craig said no one was injured in the fire, but the home sustained significant damage.

Crews were called just before 7 p.m. for a structure fire on a deck that quickly spread to the house.

Several pieces of equipment and more than 20 firefighters responded to the blaze.

“First arriving crews noted the fire had already spread to the interior of the structure and was actually through the roof,” said Craig. “Being in the attic space and the roof space did make for a difficult knock down.”

Craig said all of the occupants got out safely along with their pets and they did have insurance.

“At this time we don't believe the fire to be suspicious,” said Craig, adding investigators will be on scene Wednesday looking for a cause.

Investigators will be focussing on the deck to see if they can pinpoint a cause.

“There is significant damage to the home so sometimes that can hinder in determining the exact cause,” he said.
