A truck has caught fire on Highway 97 in Kelowna.

The flatdeck trailer hauler was engulfed by flames about 4:30 p.m. near Loyd Road and Kelowna Hyundai.

Firefighters and police are on scene, and motorists report southbound traffic was backed up, but now appears to be flowing again.

The truck is pulled over onto the shoulder, and it appears the occupants got out safely.

Thick, black smoke poured from the vehicle as it went up in flames.
