Charges for boat thieves

UPDATE: 3:50 p.m.

Two suspects were captured early Tuesday morning after stealing a boat from Red Wing Estates in Penticton.

At 7 a.m., RCMP officers responded to reports that two men had stolen a small boat and were travelling toward the east side of the lake.

After an extensive chase involving police dog services, the West Kelowna marine unit and an RCMP helicopter, the men were spotted ditching the boat on the shore near Munson Mountain.

The two were found hiding in a vineyard. Further investigation revealed they may be behind a break and enter in the early morning hours at Red Wing.

They left several stolen items behind them as they attempted escape.

Charges of break and enter and possession of stolen property are being pursued. The pair is in custody until a court date.

“This again demonstrates our officers' commitment to investigating these serious offences, and our tremendous ability to work as a team to capture those responsible," said Const. James Grandy.
