The owner of Farm Bound which was vandalized early Thursday morning tells Castanet she is very upset and for the first time since opening in April is reconsidering her decision to operate a business in downtown Kelowna.
Jaye Siegmueller says, "I really wonder whether it's worth and is this right place for me."
Surveillance video from the Castanet building clearly shows the vandal walking by just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning. He passes by Farm Bound stops in the middle of the street then goes back and throws a rock through the side window, smashes a front window then goes back and throws a couple of pieces of wood from a nearby construction site through another front window.
Siegmueller says: "First it was the flood, now this. I'm not even sure it's worth claiming this on our insurance. This is probably coming out of my pocket."
The situation on Leon Avenue is very similar, Marc Price, manager of Valley Medical Laboratories tells Castanet, "I got a call at 3:45 a.m., we had alarms go off at 3:20 a.m. We've had three large panes of glass broken this is a week after getting our bike cage getting broken into, It's getting ridiculous down here."
Price says they've been downtown for years and don't want to leave but, "I have written a letter to the mayor and council about all this stuff but... ya, it's frustrating."

More downtown businesses vandalized overnight.
At least two downtown Kelowna businesses, including Castanet, have been vandalized overnight.
One of Castanet's parking garage windows was smashed and right across the street at Farm Bound several windows have been smashed.
Farm Bound, Kelowna's first zero waste organic grocery store, located at 438 Lawrence Ave., had several windows smashed overnight.
Three windows in total were smashed, but it's not clear if anything was stolen.
Security crews indicate the area is completely covered by video surveillance cameras and it should be easy to see the crime in progress. However, identifying the individual or individuals responsible is another matter.
The store opened recently and this is not the kind of welcome any new business is hoping for.
RCMP were on scene Thursday morning and Castanet has reached out for more details.
Farm Bound is an organic grocery store where the packaging is reusable, refillable or compostable.
Several months ago there was a similar window-smashing spree in Kelowna's downtown core and parking meters have also been vandalized recently.
