Dramatic takedown on hwy

A dramatic takedown east of Osoyoos ended in two Kelowna men being arrested after they were spotted driving a stolen vehicle with a stolen trailer and generator.

RCMP received a report of a suspicious Ford F-350 pickup towing a flatdeck trailer with an industrial generator on Whitetail Road east of Osoyoos.

Sgt. Jason Bayda says the truck and trailer matched the description of ones stolen in Kelowna on Friday, and the generator was reportedly stolen on Monday morning in Kelowna.

“Officers from Midway as well as Osoyoos set up containment at the intersection of Whitetail Road and Highway 3,” he said. “The RCMP helicopter Air 4 was dispatched from Kelowna and assisted.”

Two occupants of the truck tried to depart via Whitetail Road, and RCMP vehicles blocked the road.

“The driver of the truck drove around both police cars and through a ditch before driving over two spike belts and fleeing west on Highway 3,” said Bayda.

All of the tires on the truck and trailer deflated after about two kilometres.

Two Kelowna men, 30 and 35, could not hide as the RCMP helicopter hovered over them. They were arrested and face charges of possession of stolen property, flight from police and dangerous driving.

Bayda says the 30-year-old was also wanted on a warrant out of Vancouver Island.
