Drag queen extravaganza

It will be a drag queen extravaganza as five stars of RuPaul's Drag Race descend on Kelowna for Diva.

And for the first time, the city will host an all-ages drag event, broadening the inclusivity of such events as their popularity increases.

"The content still may not be appropriate for everyone, and parents are asked to use their discretion, but it's not set in a nightclub, so legally, (minors) can attend. And with the popularity of the show, it has absolutely pushed into the older teen demographic," says event organizer Nate Flavel, a veteran of Kelowna's theatre scene.

Billed as a "Drag Superstar Eleganza Extravaganza," the evening will feature performances by Farrah Moan, Eureka O’Hara, Morgan McMichaels, Sonique and Phi Phi O’Hara.

The fully produced two-hour show takes place June 29 at Kelowna Community Theatre and also features the burlesque troupe Femme Fatale.

Showtime is 9 p.m., and tickets are available at kelownatickets.com.

General admission is $68.25, and VIP tickets are $126, which include a one-hour pre-show meet and greet photo opportunity with the queens, live DJ, welcome drink and the best seats in the house.

Minors should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. VIP tickets are reserved for those 19-plus.

The show is produced by Rudy Tomazic and Flavel, who previously hosted the Noir event, in association with Kelowna Actors Studio and Own Okanagan.
