Severe thunderstorm watch

Environment Canada has put the B.C. Interior on a severe thunderstorm watch for Saturday evening.

An area including Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton down to the border is included in the advisory.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain," reads an information release from Environment Canada.

Intermittent heavy downpours are possible, which they warn can trigger flash floods and cause water pooling on roads.

"Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall," they say.

The risk of thunderstorms will continue through the evening and taper off by midnight.
