Crash victim ID'd

Darin Des Roches of Vernon was identified as the man killed in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 6 on Sunday.

The 52-year-old widower and single father died after his car collided head on with a truck on Hwy. 6 near Waddington Drive at around 5 p.m. He leaves behind his daughter, Nova. Nova's mother died in 2016.

"Both vehicles sustained major structural damage and the highway was closed for numerous hours to allow emergency personnel to work," said RCMP Const. Kelly Brett after the crash.

"The driver of the truck was transported to the nearest medical facility with minor injuries while the other driver and sole occupant of the car died as a result of their injuries."

RCMP suspect the truck crossed the centre line in the crash. They continue to investigate.

A GoFundMe campaign was launched after the news spread to family members, and has already raised $2,820 of the $5,000 goal.

The fundraiser was launched to provide Nova with a trip to Disney to provide "a little bit of joy."
