Largest garage sale in town

If you love a good bargain and the thrill of the garage sale hunt you’ll want to check out the Trunk Sale this Saturday at Okanagan College.

Organized by the Regional Waste Reduction Office, the Trunk Sale is the Central Okanagan’s largest garage sale, featuring over 150 vendors selling their stuff straight from the trunks of their vehicles.

“The Trunk sale model is unique in these parts, a mega garage sale from the backs of vehicles, one convenient location, tons of bargains. It’s a family friendly way to spend a Saturday morning,'' said Rae Stewart, Waste Reduction Facilitator.

Stewart adds they’ve been holding two Trunk Sales a year for a number of years now, and with each event they’re always quick to fill to capacity.

“Once again, we are full with vendors, but we welcome you to come shop on sale day. No need to drive around from community to community and sale to sale, you can have a more focused garage sale experience, save on time and gas.''

The premise beyond reuse and recycling is to keep any unnecessary and perfectly good material out of our one remaining landfill.

“After the sale is over we invite a number of charities to the site so those participating don’t have to lug their items home again, they can simply donate them if they choose,'' Stewart said.

The Trunk Sale runs this Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road. It’s free to attend, rain or shine.
