Toddler falls off 3rd floor

A woman was woken up to a child crying on Saturday morning and found a two-year-old boy lying on the ground after allegedly falling from a third-floor balcony.

The woman, who lives at an apartment building off Gerstmar Road, found a boy beside a fence crying at about 7 a.m.

“We heard this crying and I was like ‘what is going on’,” Amanda Beaudry tells Castanet. “I made sure he was not bleeding, I thought maybe someone tossed him over the fence or abandoned him”

She screamed for her partner to call police and tried to find the mother of the child.

The toddler's shirt was ripped and he had a goose egg on the back of his head.

“I kept telling him ‘you’re going to be OK. Your mommy loves you.’ I am just telling him he is going to be OK,” said Beaudry.

A few minutes later the mother came into her apartment room and Beaudry spoke with paramedics.

"My partner told me he fell from the third floor, off the balcony and then I just started crying," she said.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says the two-year-old boy sustained serious bodily injuries as a result of the fall.

“He was rushed to a local hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for a medical assessment and treatment,” he said.

Medical professionals determined that the child had to be airlifted to a hospital in Vancouver for advanced care.

RCMP are continuing their investigation and the Ministry of Child and Family Development has been notified and are also now investigating the incident.
