RCMP investigate fatal crash

UPDATE: 3:25 p.m.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that they responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 6 near Waddington Drive.

A truck travelling westbound on Hwy. 6 crossed the centre line, colliding head on with an eastbound vehicle, RCMP said.

"Both vehicles sustained major structural damage and the highway was closed for numerous hours to allow emergency personnel to work," said RCMP Const. Kelly Brett in a release.

"The driver of the truck was transported to the nearest medical facility with minor injuries while the other driver and sole occupant of the car died as a result of their injuries."

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP send their condolences to all those affected, said Brett.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

A 52-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 6 in Vernon on Sunday.

According to a GoFundMe campaign post, the man was travelling to Lumby at about 5 p.m. to have dinner with his daughter when he was involved in the crash.

The campaign post also stated that the girl's mother died in 2016. The fundraiser was launched to provide the daughter with a trip to Disney to provide "a little bit of joy."

RCMP are investigating the collision.
