Search for kayaker hits day 3

The search for a kayaker missing on Okanagan Lake enters its third day Sunday.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue will be up in a helicopter over the lake for a visual search of the same general area crews searched yesterday — between the Kelowna Paddle Centre and Gyro Beach.

Search manager Duane Tresnich says they’ll be using the helicopter to surveil the centre of the lake on Sunday, as Saturday’s search was focused on the area between the shore and drop off.

RCMP will be on the lake in a boat again searching the shorelines.

The search for 71-year-old Zygmunt Janiewicz began Friday afternoon after he did not return from a paddle as scheduled.

Janiewicz's boat and a life jacket were found shortly after the search began, washed up on the shore just north of Gyro Beach. The missing senior is an experienced and fit paddler that was on the lake nearly every day.
