Woman spat and kicked

Kelowna RCMP have released a statement about a woman's naked protest outside the police detachment over the weekend.

Officers engaged the woman and attempted to gather information and de-escalate the situation, says Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

''Concerned for her overall well-being, RCMP made an apprehension under the Mental Health Act, and the woman was transported to hospital for a full medical assessment,'' O'Donaghey added.

Police are also investigating a physical altercation involving the woman that allegedly took place at Fernando's Pub the night before.

''We are not in a position to provide specific details about the altercation as we are still continuing our efforts to interview the individuals involved. RCMP encourage any independent witnesses to come forward with any information,''O'Donaghey said.

Fraser Burke, a witness to the incident, tells Castanet he was outside the pub when he saw the woman being carried out by the bouncer.

''She was being hysterical, screaming and trying to fight him. He restrained her and said 'call the cops'. After a while, she just kept struggling and struggling and wouldn't chill out and eventually the bouncer let her go,'' said Burke.

''She did come back though, and he had told me that she spat on him and tried to kick him in the face."

RCMP were called, but the woman left before their arrival.

Castanet has reached out to Fernando's for comment.
