Kampe thanked in Ottawa

In a testament to the spirit of recently deceased Penticton philanthropist David Kampe and the magnitude of his generosity, local Member of Parliament Richard Cannings used his members' statements time in the House of Commons Tuesday to tell the room about Kampe.

"Mr. Speaker, Penticton lost a pillar of the community last Wednesday when David Kampe passed away," Cannings told his colleagues from around the country.

"Mr. Kampe owned one of the largest construction firms in the Okanagan Valley and was a community builder, in that sense, for over 35 years. However, it was his quiet philanthropy that really had an impact."

Cannings highlighted Kampe's donations to the Penticton Regional Hospital, the Penticton Secondary Schools Bursary and Scholarship Foundation and the Penticton Peach Festival.

"I thank David Kampe. Lim'limpt," he said, a translation into the Sylix language. "His legacy will always be remembered."

Kampe's final philanthropic project is again in support of bursaries for local students to go toward post-secondary education, and was launched Monday
