A real career killer

For almost 40 years, my mother worked at a grocery store.

When she was first employed in the 1970s it was a job in hopes of saving enough money to go to school to become a veterinarian.

While working, she realized with her wage, accumulated time off and 100% health benefits, this was a career not just a job.

I personally refuse to use self check-outs. By using them, I feel that I am taking away from an employee.

My mom had a great career with the grocery store she worked at.

One of my first jobs was at the same grocery store. However, now it is not a career. New hires are limited in the hours they can work, in turn no health benefits are paid.

Adding self check-outs in the mix, I feel we are eliminating paid positions that should earn a living wage.
