The Penticton Vees now have three alumni at the World Hockey Championships in Slovakia, with Tyson Jost joining Team Canada after his Colorado Avalanche were eliminated from Stanley Cup contention.
Jost, from St. Albert, Alberta, finished his second season in the National Hockey League with the Avalanche this past season. He appeared in 70 games scoring 11 goals and 15 assists.
With the Vees, Jost played two seasons from 2014-16 scoring 65 goals and 84 assists in 97 games. As team captain in 2015-16, Jost finished third in league scoring with 104 points.
He was named the BCHL’s MVP, CJHL’s Player of the Year, won gold at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge, gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and named captain of Team Canada at the World Under-18 Championship. He holds the Canadian record for most points at one Under-18 tournament with 15.
He was drafted 10th overall by the Avalanche that summer before moving on to the University of North Dakota.
This will be the second time Jost has played at the World Hockey Championships as he had a strong showing last year with four goals and two assists in nine games. This will be the eighth time he has represented Canada at the International level.
He joins Troy Stecher and former Vees teammate Dante Fabbro who are already with Team Canada at the event. Canada is 0-1 at the tournament after a 3-1 loss to Finland Friday morning.
