Hwy open, traffic moving


UPDATE: 9 p.m.

Traffic is now moving again on Highway 97 in both directions.

Some reports indicate there may have been a fatality involved in the crash. 

The South Okanagan Events Centre posted on Facebook Saturday evening: "We are aware there has been a fatal accident on HWY 97 just north of Summerland causing a road closure in both directions." The venue postponed the start of their planned concert this evening due to the crash.

Castanet has reached out to local RCMP for further comment on the nature of the incident.

UPDATE: 7:35 p.m.

Traffic is not moving at the Highway 97 crash site. 

A report from Drive BC was incorrect. 

No traffic is getting through near Callan Road north of Summerland at Highway 97, in either direction.


UPDATE: 7:30 p.m.

Drive BC is reporting that the highway is now clear in both directions. 

Traffic should be moving at the site of the earlier semi trailer crash.


UPDATE: 6:31 p.m.

Drive BC is now reporting that lanes are closed in both directions on Highway 97 just north of Summerland near Callan Road.

An assessment is in progress, but no reopening time is available. 

Drive BC says commuters should expect "major delays."

The crash comes at a time when many are trying to get to the South Okanagan Events Centre to see heavy metal bands Godsmack and Volbeat play at 7:30 p.m.

Castanet readers are reporting a semi trailer accident near Summerland on Highway 97.

Reportedly, the road is not moving in either direction.
