Some repairs being made

Officials with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure know Trinity Valley Road is in rough shape, and they are working on fixing it.

Residents using the secondary road that connects Lumby with Enderby have been asking for upgrades for years.

The road is not only used by residents, but also logging trucks and school buses, with some residents calling it a safety hazard.

A statement from the MOTI lists a number of areas where the road is in dire need of repair: A combination of heavy rain, snow melt and freeze/thaw conditions this spring have rapidly deteriorated paved and gravel sections of Trinity Valley Road. Conditions have led to significant rutting and potholes throughout the road, while more than a dozen frost heaves have damaged the pavement in a two kilometre section. There is also a road base failure near the 10 kilometre mark and a collapsed culvert and sinkhole near the 34 kilometre mark, where traffic is currently reduced by one lane to maintain safety.

And according to the MOTI, they are working on a solution, saying “Ministry staff and the maintenance contractor are currently developing a work plan to fix the road.
Road surfacing grading is planned for this week, as well as repairs to the collapsed culvert and sinkhole to maintain safe driving conditions. It is currently too wet to conduct repairs to the road base failure at the 10 kilometre mark, but this work will take place later this season. Resurfacing of the two kilometre section damaged by frost heaves will also take place later this spring or early summer.”
