Fire destroys home

A house became fully engulfed in flames in Peachland Saturday.

The fire started just after 1 p.m. on Somerset Avenue, just off Princeton Avenue, and quickly overtook the home.

Despite a very quick response from the Peachland Fire Department, photos from the scene show large parts of the home have been destroyed.

The black plume of smoke coming from the home was visible from afar, prompting concerns from those in area.

Oddie Robie was nearby when the fire began, and she said the fire kicked up very quickly, but it appears fire crews have gotten the blaze under control.

"There was no trickle of smoke and all of a sudden there was just this massive balloon of smoke, within two minutes," Robie said.

It's unclear what started the fire.

Somerset Avenue has been closed as crews mop up the area.
