Firefighters in training

High school students across the Okangan were put to the test at Fire Hall #1 in Kelowna Wednesday.

Students in Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 rotated through five stations at the hall off Enterprise Way, participating in ladder climbing, hose carrying, fire extinguishing and much more.

"This is our fifth year in a row with students from School District 23 and it seems to go over really well," said Rick Euper, fire and life safety educator.

"We like to show people what we do, and we hope that eventually we will see some of the young students coming through and becoming firefighters.''

For Grade 9 student Colton Bell it was a dream come true.

"For a long time I have thought about it. When I was a little kid it was always a dream of mine," he said.

Euper says they expect to be holding the event with students for years to come.
