Serwa goes out a winner

Kelowna's Kelsey Serwa is sailing into retirement a champion.

Serwa, who announced last year this would be her final season of competitive skiing, captured the Canadian Ski Cross championship over the weekend at Sunshine Resort in Banff.

The 29-year-old, who learned to ski at Big White, had just one podium finish on the World Cup circuit, a third at an event in Idre Fjall, Sweden before sweeping a pair of races in Banff.

She won the NorAm race before taking the National title, edging out World Cup teammate Marielle Thompson in both.

She described taking part in the national championship as "all-around good times.

“It was really tight racing, [and the] volunteers did an incredible job [with the course],” she said following her victory.

Serwa finishes her international career with Olympic gold and silver medals, a world championship, two X-Games championships and 19 World Cup podium finishes.
