Kelowna's curling double

Kelowna will host not one, but two world curling championships in 2020.

The World Curling Federation announced Wednesday morning the city will play host to the World Mixed Doubles, and World Seniors, simultaneously.

The events will be held at the Kelowna Curling Club from April 18 to 25.

"I am delighted that Kelowna has bid to host these world championships in 2020, so soon after running a successful world mixed event in 2018," said federation president Kate Caithness.

"The Kelowna Curling Club is an ideal venue to house these world events. With over 60 teams competing and supporters and media attending from across the world, as well as the World Mixed Doubles being one of our live TV events, I am in no doubt the coverage generated for curling’s newest Olympic discipline will be second to none."

Canada is the defending Olympic champion in mixed doubles.

Kelowna host the provincial mixed doubles in 2017.

John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes won the inaugural event in PyeongChang, South Korea last year.
