All hurt expected to survive

Everyone is expected to survive a serious crash Sunday afternoon on Highway 97 north of Summerland.

RCMP were called to the crash at about 4:40 p.m., where a south bound transport truck with two tandem trailers loaded with lumber lost control and crashed into a north bound Volkswagen with three occupants.

“The transport truck continued across all four lanes of the highway before it rolled over, spilled its load and came to rest in the ditch on the west side of the highway,” Cpl. Mike Halskov said in a news release.

The three occupants of the Volkswagen, all from the South Okanagan area, were seriously injured. One occupant was airlifted to hospital and the others were taken to hospital by ground ambulance.

“Although the injuries were serious, everyone is expected to survive,” Halskov continued. “The driver of the transport truck received only minor injuries.”

Central and South Okanagan Traffic Services are investigating the crash with the help of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement. The crash resulted in the closure of the highway for about three hours.
