A Tesla crashed into a power pole in Okanagan Falls Saturday.

A Tesla crashed into a power pole in Okanagan Falls Saturday afternoon after the driver swerved out of the way of two runaway wheels that had come off a transport truck.

The crash, which knocked out power to several homes in the area, occurred at about 4 p.m. on Highway 97 near the bridge in Okanagan Falls.

A firefighter who attended the scene said the Tesla was driving southbound, entering the town, when a set of dually wheels came off the rear of the oncoming truck, and rolled towards the car.

“The Tesla tried to avoid the tires and they hit the hydro pole,” the man said.

He said the people in the Tesla suffered only minor injuries in the crash.

“They were lucky,” he said.

In addition to emergency crews, Fortis attended the scene and restored power to the area.

It's unclear what caused the wheels to come off the truck.
