Dog owners will have to dig into their wallets if they allow their animals to run free on Marshall Fields.

The off-leash debate at the Okanagan Landing recreational area has raged in council for weeks, with civic leaders eventually agreeing to allow off-leash dogs in the rough area of the popular park.

However, people are still letting their dogs run free on the play field and council will now instruct dog control services to ticket those dog owners.

Counc. Scott Anderson was a strong proponent of the off-leash area, and he agrees dogs should not be on the field and fines are warranted.

“I think we have to train people hard way,” said Anderson.
