Good vibrations at Star

There’s a mountain festival of seismic proportions going on at Silver Star.

Music echoed through the village, Saturday, as crowds came searching for fun at the Seismic Mountain Festival, which continues until March 31.

“We had some great anchors ... like the Monster Energy boarder style and the timber tour. And we wanted to add more elements and create a mountain festival,” said resort spokesman Ian Jenkins.

“We wanted a festival combining sport, culture, community, and things for kids. It’s about people just getting out and having fun. There’s face-painting, caricatures, free samples, snow shoeing, fat biking and so much more.”

The 10-day festival features sport, music, art, culture and community events each day, including live music, beverage gardens, DJs, a wine and spirit festival, art exhibitions, vendors and more.

“We expect higher numbers during the weekend, but we’re running at a high occupancy rate throughout the week, which isn’t the norm for this time of year. We’re happy how it’s turning out," said Jenkins.

“This weekend is more about action sports. Next weekend is more about culinary. The Wine Master Dinner Series, featuring guest chef David Hawksworth, sold out in two days. But there will also be a wine and craft alcohols tasting inside big blow-up igloos.”

In an update regarding the unusual avalanche at Silver Star that happened on Wednesday, Jenkins said: “The backside, or Putnam Creek area, will remain closed. There are third-party avalanche assessors going up today and tomorrow. Safety remains our biggest concern.”
