Thieves target senior

A warning to seniors from Kelowna RCMP after thieves targeted a woman in the parking lot of a local strip mall.

They managed to get away with a gold chain, which also held her wedding band and that of her late husband.

Police say two women approached the senior, who was seated in her vehicle in a parking lot on Dilworth Drive.

During their interaction, one of the suspects offered the woman a gold chain. While she declined, the suspect leaned into the vehicle and placed the chain around her neck.

At the same time, it's believed she also unhooked the victim's own chain before leaving.

"It's very troubling to hear that anyone would intentionally victimize any senior citizen in our community," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey.

"At this time our priorities include the continued support of our victim, who has been traumatized by the loss of an item of immense sentimental value, and the continued efforts to locate her stolen jewelry."

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 250-762-3300 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.crimestoppers.net.
