Hit pedestrians, took off

A hit-and-run driver likely knew he hit two pedestrians, Vancouver Police say.

Police are appealing for the driver to come forward after the pedestrians were struck while crossing Fraser Street near East 20th Avenue early on Monday.

The driver fled the scene, leaving a 25-year-old woman from Surrey, and a 35-year-old man from Vancouver with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman has since been released from hospital, while the man remains in serious condition, the VPD says.

Evidence at the scene points to the vehicle being a grey or silver, 2014 or 2015 Kia Optima Hybrid.

“Based on the evidence collected so far, we believe the driver should be aware that they hit the pedestrians,” Sgt. Jason Robillard said in a press release. “We are appealing to the driver to do the right thing and come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Vancouver Police at 604-717-3012 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
