Man stabbed downtown

Police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect in a stabbing in downtown Kelowna Tuesday.

At about 4:35 p.m., Downtown Kelowna Association members found a man on the 1600 block of Ellis Street suffering from an apparent stab wound to the abdomen.

After police were called to the area, they learned the stabbing had occurred about 10 minutes prior, on the 400 block of Leon Avenue.

“RCMP believe that the incident was an isolated and targeted event,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The suspect, described as an Indigenous man with spiked hair and a chain necklace, fled the scene westbound along Leon Avenue toward Okanagan Lake.

Police have asked anyone who saw the assault, or any businesses that may have surveillance footage of the incident, to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
