Nanaimo Search and Rescue was called out Tuesday after a hiker spent the night in the backcountry.

The man’s truck was found by family members Monday evening, who called the police.

But, the man wasn’t missing, he had just hiked to Cinderella Lake to go fishing and decided to spend the night, CTV News reports. 

The avid outdoorsman was well prepared, but "unfortunately, he hadn’t let anybody else know his plans,” search manager Allen Tonn told CTV.

Searchers followed footprints in the snow to the man, who was "embarrassed that we found him more than anything else,” said Tonn.
