Garage goes up in flames

Rob Gibson

Emergency crews managed to douse a garage fire in Coldstream Sunday.

Crews from the Coldstream and Lavington Fire departments responded to a garage fire on Uplands Drive in Coldstream just before noon on Sunday.

Chief David Sturgeon tells Castanet the fire appears to have started in the garage before spreading to the rest of the house. The homeowner was reportedly working on a motorcycle in the garage when it caught fire and the flames spread quickly.

Crews managed to douse the blaze before it could get too far. The 4 occupants of the home were evacuated and there were no injuries in the blaze. However, the occupants have been displaced due to smoke and water damage and are now being taken care of by Emergency Support Services. "It looks like they'll be out for a while, there were four occupants in the house at the time of the fire, they all got out safely and there are no injuries."

Sturgeon also says fire investigators will remain on scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.
