Go where you wanna go

It doesn't matter if you are a man, woman, centaur or alien, all Midtown Bistro asks is you wash your hands when you are done.

The downtown eatery is getting people talking on social media about their gender-neutral bathroom signage.

Kelly Lacroix operates the 30th Avenue eatery with her husband, Greg Stefiuk, and is a little surprised that the signs are the talk of the town.

Lacroix put up the signs last week, but a post on the Vernon and Area Community Forum Wednesday got people talking and the bistro was packed for lunch on Thursday.

“We only have two bathrooms and you would always find one man standing outside the girl's room waiting for the man's room and it was like, really, at home it doesn't matter so it just seemed a little silly to me,” said Lacroix. “It just made way more sense.”

Lacroix said she did not expect all the attention - not good attention anyway.

“I kind of thought more of a backlash than the positivity to be honest,” said Lacroix, adding other restaurants are calling and asking where they too can get similar signs.

Lacroix does have some transgender friends and does not see why it has to be such a big deal.
