One driver in hospital

Rob Gibson

UPDATE 9:45 a.m.

The driver of the grey Honda involved in a serious collision in downtown Kelowna Thursday morning is in hospital being treated for injuries he received in the incident.

Zackary Anderson's mother tells Castanet he's in rough shape but he wanted us to know he was travelling in the HOV lane heading towards the bridge on Highway 97 when the collision occurred.

It appears the truck was heading through the intersection towards Buckland Avenue when the two vehicles collided.

"Zackary jumped out of his car and went over to make sure the other driver was OK, he was scared to death. He said he didn't see him and he thought he killed him when the truck rolled," his mother said.

UPDATE 7:45 a.m.

Emergency crews have removed both vehicles after a serious collision at Harvey Avenue and Ellis Street as of 7:45 a.m.

There was serious damage to both vehicles and one of the drivers could be seen covered in a blanket sitting on the side of the road.

Traffic has returned to normal after some fast work by emergency road crews.

ORIGINAL 7:23 a.m.

A serious collision at the corner of Ellis Street and Highway 97 in downtown Kelowna Thursday morning has caused one southbound lane of Harvey Avenue to be shut down as of 7:15 a.m.

A pick-up truck is on its side and a grey Honda is also damaged in the collision. It appears the pick-up was heading through the intersection at Ellis and Harvey and the Honda was making a left-hand turn.

The drivers of both vehicles could be seen receiving medical attention but it appears any injuries are not life-threatening.
