Bringing home the hardware

The Okanagan Gymnastics Centre's acro team cleaned house at a national competition last weekend in Edmonton.

The 2019 Salto Gymnastics Challenge was held at the Edmonton Expo Centre, featuring gymnasts across the country.

The Okanagan Gymnastics Centre brought home a total of 11 medals.

The Level 6 women's group consisting of Avery Rudolph, Taylor Devries and Alexis Le placed second at their first acro competition and brought home silver medals.  Level 7 group Maddyson Kempf, Maddilyn Dalkeith and Emma Gervais also brought home silver.

OGC's 11-16 mixed pair, Jacob Wong and Junelle Sabang, placed first overall, bringing home gold, and the Level 9 women's group of Shelbi Jardine, Brie-Lynn Sargeant and Charli Hall also topped the podium.

''I know it is a little cliche but the word that comes to mind whether they win Gold or not is "Proud".  The Gold Medal is their reward for the hours and hours of hard work that they put in to get where they are.  I am proud of them regardless,' said Marely Hall, mother to Charli Hal.

The international invitational division has competition in 10 competitive levels, and a field of more than 1,300 to include gymnasts from four countries.

Next week, the OGC acro team will be off to compete in Las Vegas at the third Vegas Acro Cup, one of the sport's largest international competitions in North America.
