Takedown at motel

Police officers surrounded a motel on Saturday night in Kelowna beside Highway 97 and Highway 33.

A Castanet reader was driving by Okanagan Seasons Resort at about 9 p.m. when he saw an emergency response team officer hiding behind a tree with his gun drawn towards the motel.

“There was a camouflage guy holding a sniper rifle on a tripod there between the tree,” he said. “He was focused right on the open door.”

About six officers were standing behind a tactical armoured vehicle that was facing an open door with its lights on.

“The gentleman came out first with jeans on, no shirt, and his hands up,” he said. “He was instructed to come out.”

After the man exited the motel room a woman was told to step outside.

“I only saw two people come out of the room,” he said.

The witness said there were about five police cruisers surrounding the other side of the motel and the two people were arrested.

Castanet has reached out to RCMP for more details about the incident and contacted the motel, but no one was available for comment.
