Ex-Rocket now a Red Wing

Former Kelowna Rockets defenceman Madison Bowey is changing addresses.

Bowey, who had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as a member of the Washington Capitals, was traded Friday morning to the Detroit Red Wings.

Detroit also received a second-round draft pick in the deal. They shipped veteran defenceman Nick Jensen and a 2019 fifth-round draft choice to the Capitals.

Bowey has been in and out of the Capitals lineup this season...more out than in since the start of the new year.

He hasn't played since Feb. 7, and has been a healthy scratch for 17 of the last 21 games.

In the 33 games he has played, Bowey has a goal and five assists.

Bowey, who turns 24 April 22, was a second round pick of the Capitals in 2013.

In parts of five seasons in Kelowna, Bowey amassed 58 goals and 114 points. He still holds the club record for goals in a season by a defenceman, 21.

In 84 NHL games, he has a goal and 17 assists.
