Slow traffic after new slide

UPDATE: 10:40 a.m.

Traffic is now moving slowly in both lanes in both directions, though a significant backup still exists driving south.

A Castanet reporter drove through the slide area and warns visibility is almost non-existent for a short stretch just below the slide due to billowing dust on the roadway.

Argo road crews are still in the area.

ORIGINAL: 10:17 a.m.

A silt bank above Highway 97 south of Summerland has come down onto the roadway, stalling southbound traffic.

Southbound traffic was blocked for close to 30 minutes, according to motorists. Northbound vehicles experienced just minor delays. It's believed the slide came down shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Crews have now arrived on scene and traffic is flowing again in both directions. One southbound lane remains blocked, however, and it will take some time for the traffic backlog to clear.

Highway crews are working on clearing the debris from the roadway.
