Tourist train sidelined

A popular tourist train will be parked this summer in Port Alberni.

The steam train had previously taken as many as 9,000 visitors a year to the historic McLean Mill.

It would have cost the city $192,500 to operate the train this year, or $4,200 per run, CTV News reports

“I hope all parties can work toward new funding solutions during this year of shut down to reduce the funds needed from the city,” Mayor Sharie Minions said on Facebook.

“As a community I think we’ve fallen into feeling like we have nothing if we don’t have the train and mill as attractions,” she said. “We have a beautiful community with an extensive network of trails, gorgeous waterfront, nature and unique shops."
