Vernon's Aquatic Centre pool will be closed Thursday to perform unexpected preventative maintenance to replace a damaged part of the lap pool air handling unit.

It's estimated that the repair will take eight to 16 hours to complete, the city says.

To complete the repair, the unit needs to be turned off, which may result in a buildup of carbon dioxide and chloramines in the pool area.

So, for safety, the pool will be shut down during the work.

The pool is expected to reopen for regular hours on Friday.
