One dead in house blaze

RCMP have confirmed that one person died in the blaze that tore through a Penticton home early Sunday morning, and police say the fire was suspicious.

On Feb. 10 at 3 a.m. police and fire crews responded to 221 Huth Avenue to find the house fully engulfed in flames.

Neighbours described the occupant fleeing from the flames, and explaining that a friend was still inside.

Once the flames were out, fire crews found one person dead inside, whose identity has yet to be confirmed by the BC Coroners Service.

Investigators with the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment’s General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Section, and the Penticton Fire Department, are all on scene.

“This incident is considered suspicious, and our investigation is in its early stages. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Penticton RCMP 250-492-4300 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477," said Cst. James Grandy.
