UPDATE 10:45 a.m.

The coroner and RCMP are on scene at a fire that destroyed a Huth Avenue home in the early morning hours Sunday.

Next door neighbour Lee Gannon phoned RCMP around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

“(My neighbour) came down, said his house was on fire and his best friend was still in there,” Gannon said. “He ran over and I phoned the fire trucks.”

Her neighbour attempted to go back into the residence, Gannon said.

“I ran over there as fast as I could, I’ve got a bum knee, I heard the other dog whining at the window trying to get out. So I opened the front door of the living room and I called him and he wouldn’t come out. Then (the man) who lives there tried to go in there and get him and got blown back by the heat,” Gannon said.

Multiple RCMP vehicles surrounded the home as fire crews still worked on putting out the fire, with smoke still coming out of the residence at 10:30 a.m. Officers on scene said an update would be coming from RCMP within a few hours.

Castanet News has reached out to both RCMP and Penticton Fire for updates, but officials have yet to confirm if the fire has resulted in any deaths.
