Connie's silent struggle

Rob Gibson

A Kelowna woman battling  esophageal cancer, which has spread to her lungs, liver and lymph nodes and can no longer work needs help.

Connie Fox has lived in Kelowna since 1981 and has been a server in the food industry for 30 years. In fact, if you've eaten at the IHOP at Harvey Avenue and Spall in Kelowna she may have served you pancakes.

Doctors are trying to keep her in a positive frame of mind but this type of cancer is terminal and she has anywhere from months to several years to live. "The prognosis isn't good, they're hoping they can make my life a little bit better."

Connie got the bad news right before Christmas, "not the kind of present I wanted," she says.

After her diagnosis, she had to quit work and is now struggling to pay for her everyday living expenses.

Fortunately, her roommate Jason Tibbs has watched her silent struggling as she fights for her life and tries to keep her head above water financially, "all I did was set up a little GoFundme page and hope the community rallies around her. I love Connie and if anyone deserves support at a time like this it's her."

The GoFundme page describes Connie as a hardworking single mother who recently lost her son.

"Connie's diagnosis at 56 is sadly unexpected and although she has been approved for CPP benefits the government won't issue a check before at least April,"  says Tibbs.

"Anything you can give, even your time with social media and shares will help ease the physical, mental and financial burden of Connie's battle. Together we can help Connie win her fight against cancer." - Connie Fox GoFundme.
