Hwys open in storm's wake

Major BC highways have reopened after closures overnight as a heavy snow storm swept across the southern half of the province.

The Trans-Canada Highway reopened at 3 a.m. near the east boundary of Glacier National Park following a crash.

And southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway reopened about 12:30 a.m. after another vehicle incident between Merritt and Hope.

Highway 3 was also cleared at Allison Pass about 3 a.m. after a downed tree reduced traffic to a single lane.

Environment Canada had forecast the storm would bring up to 20 centimetres of snow to mountain passes.

In the Okanagan, snow fell again overnight, bringing anywhere from two to 10 cm of the white stuff to parts of the valley.
